This trip was designed to allow others to dive into the story of a Gathering family’s journey of stewardship in a way that invites reflection and application to their own story. The design was aimed at families who may be facing crucial decisions about vision and impact, and about raising their children and managing family dynamics. We don’t prescribe solutions. Instead, we befriend families who are eager to lean on the collective wisdom of our community.
Chris and Ashley Herschend of Herschend Family Entertainment invited us for drinks and dinner at their home in Atlanta on Thursday, Nov 14. The next day, we visited their corporate office, which manages about 10,000 employees across the country. We concluded with dinner at one of the city’s premier restaurants on Friday, Nov 15.
This trip was designed for those building a scalable business, or hope to welcome your children into your family enterprise or philanthropy. It was an opportunity to hear insights from the Herschends, and discuss and process with fellow travelers who hold similar dreams.

Criteria to join our community events
- Follow Jesus as Lord and Savior.
- Give at least $200,000 a year to Christian causes. Though the number isn't a rigid threshold, it represents a proxy for the types of people who are asking and wrestling with the same questions around wise stewardship, giving well, avoiding pitfalls, raising the next generation, allocating resources, defining a family legacy, etc. People come to The Gathering to pursue relationships with peers who are exploring similar issues with a measure of humility, vulnerability, and trust.
