FRIDAY DINNERS AT THE GATHERING

We are excited to announce this year’s Friday night dinner hosts! Please read the descriptions of each organization’s dinner below and register for the dinner you would like to attend.

Bible Literacy Project: Meet the Global Leaders in Bible Engagement

Tom McCallie invites you to an evening of education and inspiration with the global leaders in Bible Engagement. You will hear exciting news from Chuck Stetson, CEO of the Stetson Family Office and Bible Literacy Project, about his published book The Bible and Its Influence -the only First Amendment safe textbook for academic Bible study in U.S. public schools. Since the book’s launch in April 2005, it has been taught in 650 high schools in 45 states. Studies have shown that seventy-two percent of students taking the course, who as a group knew very little about the Bible at the start of the course, continue to read the Bible after the course. There are many more powerful statistics to share and where the future of this program is headed, but you will have to join to find out! No need to travel far for this dinner event because it will take place onsite at the Ritz-Carlton, but one thing is for sure -you will need to buckle your seat belt for this presentation!

Langham Partnership: Game-Changing Strength for the Global Church

“Dolores, But You Can Call Me Lolita!” is the restaurant, and the evening could be called, “Global church transformation, but you can call us Langham!”
Your story and Langham’s will intersect over a meal (and some Latin-infused live music) in downtown Miami at the historic “Dolores But You Can Call Me Lolita”—a former firehouse turned Cuban-Spanish fusion restaurant (they even preserved the original fireman poles!). You’ll leave encouraged at how God can use your story, and the Langham story, to transform the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ in some of the hardest places around the world. As you hear the these stories and learn more about the global church, you will be amazed at how God (through the ministry of Langham Partnership) is advancing His kingdom in the most improbable hearts and into the most unlikely communities.

Visual Commentary on Scripture, Hosted by The Ahmansons

As we move ever more into a visual age (e.g., Google on May 5, 2018, announced that it is revamping its Google News app, to add more video and improve speed), how can art better serve our encounters with Scripture? How do the Bible’s great stories come alive in new ways when viewed in the company of artists, and what happens to passages that are not easily translated into images such as the letters of St. Paul? Many people today — especially secular elites — do not trust churches, pastors, or the Bible, but cannot stay out of art museums where they hope for some kind of life-inspiring spiritual experience catalyzed by works of art. The Visual Commentary on Scripture (VCS) is a response. Join us for an evening that will feature Ben Quash [Director of VCS and Professor, King’s College London] with the story of VCS and samples of what will be in it. The dinner will be onsite at the Ritz-Carlton -so you know it will not disappoint!
