Venture Capital Philanthropy: Charitable Organizations Step Up

Robert Pozen writes in the Wall Street Journal that "Venture-capital firms have become more cautious, unwilling to fund start-ups that have bright ideas but whose products are a long way from commercial viability."
But because the U.S. Treasury Department recently issued a proposal to enable foundations to buy stock in certain commercial endeavors, charitable organizations can now step up and help.
