Thousands of charities and their fans have been watching the Chase Community Giving program on Facebook this past month to see who would win the $1 million grand prize. Based on votes from Facebook users, Invisible Children received the grand prize, and To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) was one of five runner-ups who will receive $100,000. Duke University recently revealed some surprising results in their study of orphaned children in developing countries. Contrary to popular belief, the study revealed that children raised in orphanages were no worse in their health, emotional and cognitive functioning, and physical growth than those cared for in their communities by relatives, and performed better than those raised in foster-care situations.
